If you own a bar or restaurant, serving wine is key to making customers happy as many people enjoy drinking wine with their meal. Storing wine properly is important as some wines should not be stored in direct sunlight or in warm climates. Improperly storing wine can ruin the taste, color and texture over time. Investing in
commercial wine racks helps you retain the charm and flavor of most wine.
Choosing a Wine Rack
When choosing a wine rack, consider the number of bottles you want to store at any given time. Depending on how much wine you serve every day, you may only need a small rack made of a sturdy material such as wood or iron. Place the rack in a dark place in the kitchen or behind the bar and add bottles to the rack as needed.
If storing larger quantities of wine, consider purchasing a wall rack or large cabinet-style rack to hold lots of bottles. Arrange by vintage, region or year depending on your preferences. You may need to purchase a customized wine rack to fit in the basement or cellar of your bar or restaurant. Customized wine racks are available in a variety of materials, colors and sizes. You may also want to store wine behind the bar.
Commercial wine racks allow you to store as much wine as you want in the order that makes the most sense for you or your bartenders. If offering rare vintages, a sturdy wine rack will prevent spills or other accidents.
If starting a wine shop, look for wine racks that are open, but sturdy to hold multiple bottles for display. Wine racks should look clean and professional so customers will see the wine, not the racks.
Arranging Your Wine
How you choose to arrange wine bottles in a wine rack depend on the number of bottles you have and how you plan to use them. Separating wines into different categories may help you find the right bottle when you need it. Create categories for reds, whites, blends, and dessert wines. Make it easier for bartenders and servers by keeping similar wine together.
Some people choose to rotate their stock by placing newer bottles in the back and older bottles in the front to help maintain quality stock.
Maintaining Wine Racks
Care and maintenance of commercial wine racks isn’t very difficult. Periodically dust the rack using a damp cloth to remove dust, dirt and other debris. Check to make sure the rack is secure against the wall to ensure wine bottles remain safe. If using a small wine rack, make sure it is securely placed on the kitchen counter or cabinet.
Invest in quality wine racks to protect your investment whether you sell wine by the glass or by the bottle. Over time, you may need to invest in additional racks depending on the demand for good wine.

If you were actively buying wine gifts in the mid 1990′s then you probably bought a ton of Australian wine.
I certainly did.
Things have changed a bit and Aussie wine is not as in or hot as it once was, but there are still serious values to be found if you know where to look.
Of course, a little basic knowledge about Australian wine helps a lot!
First, they have given the grape called Syrah a slight name change and called it Siraz. Why? No one outside the wine industry knows for sure, but it is something to keep in mind when shopping since so much great Syrah is made in California, but usually it can’t be sold because the average consumer simply doesn’t like the grape. Don’t be fooled into buying a bottle for someone who doesn’t like the grape based on the name change! Cabernet Sauvignon grows well in Australia and makes a fine and respectable choice, personally I would choose to start there!
