Stones for massage might be good

Talking about massage with stones might sound weird, but it is actually being done in SPAs all over the world. They are not just rocks but smooth stones and they are heated to a particular temperature and used to rub across your back or anywhere in your body with aching muscles.
Native American Indians once used fire heated stones to treat back aches. Unlike the native Indians however, the modern way of heating the stones use steam and with a particular temperature of 50 to 53 degrees. The use of smooth flat rocks applied on certain parts of the body produces a therapeutic effect as it heats the muscles and applies a certain amount of pressure that has a soothing effect after being there for a certain amount of time.
The revival of the use of this treatment came from a certain Mary Nelson of Arizona and she termed it “LaStone Therapy”. She has her own special method but other SPAs however have developed their own techniques and different terms to call the same treatment.
Different cultures have developed their own methods for massage. An interesting style of massage I witnessed in Vietnam where they used the back of a brush or a comb and they rub it along the aching limb.

A few minutes of rest

Miriam gasped as the basalt hot stones were lowered onto her back. Her daughters had pitched in to buy her a day pass at Sherry’s Spa to celebrate her fiftieth birthday. She’d been a little hesitant. The idea of a stranger putting hands to her, mostly, naked body gave her pause. Call it a Baptist upbringing, but she was a little shy of anything remotely close to public sexuality. Her daughters told her to think of it as less sexy and more medical. “No point on pretending a doctor hasn’t seen thousands of nether-regions, Mama. Same with a masseuse. They know what they’re doing and they know what you’ve got.” The logic beat her into submission, but she still felt a little embarrassed under the towel.
Her masseuse was a small woman. Not Sherry herself, but a freckled vixen who appeared to be young enough not to be have been defeated by life yet. She still had some spark. Miriam had heard this sort of personality referred to as a “fire-cracker”. With her red hair and bright freckles, it seemed appropriate. Miriam resolved to relax and stretched her arms out enjoying the heat on her back. She was fifty, dammit, and she’d earned a few minutes of rest.

Sitting Too Long Can Kill

Are you sitting down? Perhaps you shouldnt. Sitting down all day, like what most of us do in front of a computer or TV screen, can actually kill you. According to a new study just published, the longer we sit, the greater our chances of premature death than those who stand more often.

The Sax Institute (an Australian organization) surveyed over 220,000 adults over 45 years old. The results showed that the longer people sat, the more likely they were to die in the next three years. Those extreme sitters (sitting more than 11 hours per day) were 40% more likely to die in three years, compared to those sitting only 4 hours or less.

Perhaps the next time you have to ride the bus, you might be more willing to give up your seat and stand.

Also according to the study, those of us who exercise but then also sit for an extended period of time have an increased chance of early death. This means that it isnt enough to hit the gym after working 8 hours in a cubicle. We need to stand up while we are at work.

This can be done by using a stand up desk (Anthro is an example of a company who manufacturers height adjustable desks for sitting/standing). Or you can make sure to take more breaks, get up and go to the bathroom more often, or perhaps have a “walking meeting” where you and your co-workers can chat while on your feet. Either way, keep off your butt and enjoy a longer life.

Protein Building Blocks

When it comes to the best way to gain muscle, it is a fact that is often up for contention. Some people swear by certain supplements, by making sure your body has the correct amount of certain growth hormone, and some swear that it is absolutely reliant on the amount of testosterone in the body. While all of these things are mitigating factors and can lead up to helping you better build muscle mass and gain strength, these people fail to mention the most important truth. Your body is its own special science. What that means is that you have to find the collection of things that hit your ‘sweet spot’ giving you the optimal conditions for growth and strength training. One thing that is a constant across all options is the need a good muscle building diet.

Protein is the greatest building block of muscle. You will need to take in more protein than the average person who is just trying to maintain their weight and size. Look at it this way, your body is a machine. Without the correct fuel, the machine cannot run to the best of its ability. So you want to do what you can to get rid of the ‘junk’ in your system by cutting out things like processed foods and sugars, and taking in the right kinds of fatty acids and proteins. Even that is not enough to make your body its best. You will need a solid strength training regimen, with a focus on weight lifting and circuit training. This will allow your body to focus on the specific muscle groups that you are targeting, giving them the attention that they need to be at their best, and work to the fullest degree. Dead lifts are the back bone of any weight lifting regimen. It works most major muscle groups without straining.
